Music and rituals

 As I mentioned in my first blog I danced my entire life growing up. When I was six years old I started at my old studio for just ballet anf tap, and then when I was eight years old I moved to another studio and did many genres of dance, such as hip-hop, ballet, modern, jazz, and lyrical. Between the end of may and beginning of june we would have our annual recital. The week leading up to it would be production week, this was a week full of stress, nerves, and excitement, but it brought the entire studio together. 
Before every show everyone would come together in a big circle and our dance teacher would lead us in a prayer. This was always so special because it gave a sense of relief in the midsts of the chaos. Being apart of this studio growing up gave me some of be best friendships, and gave me a second home.

During my senior year of high school I was able to perform my senior solo. I choose to do it to my dads favorite song Forever Young by Alphaville.  This song has meant a lot to me and it felt good being able to bring together two things I love dearly. Every time I have an important event I have to perform at, feeling down, or I am travelling I play this song beforehand.

    Hi Seleyna! Seems like dancing is a big part of your life and it's always nice to have a place where you can go and just be yourself. The feeling of a second home is something I can relate to as well with my life in sports. Good job!

    Hi Seleyna, I really liked the fact that you chose the song "Forever Young" for your senior day in high school in honour of your dad. I really like that song too honestly. Nice job on your blog, keep going !

    I liked how you related both music and dance in the post. It shows how these things can allow us to reminisce both good memories and bad ones too. It is so cool to see how you can think about all the different feelings you had from dancing and how music helps you do just that.

    Hey Seleyna, I really like that you chose the song forever young because I think we all wish we could stay young forever and be able to see more thing but I really love this song. I also had to listen to this song in middle school.

Music and Family

 For this blog I choose to interview my mom. My mom was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. My mom has fulfilled every role I have ever needed. My mom has my greatest role model and inspiration to do tough and challenging things. We have a larger age gap than most parents and their kids, so we butt heads about certain things, but she has always been my number one supporter and someone I can look up to.  I started out asking her if she even liked music to begin with, she said yes and that her favorite genre is worship music. She does not like heavy metal, I can totally agree with her on this one. Her earliest memory of music is when she was six years old. Elvis Presley, Micheal Jackson,Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, and Aretha Franklin are among the biggest artists when she was growing up.
